Frequently Asked Questions
Can vertical rails be retrofitted to existing walls?
Yes, vertical rails do not require in-wall mounting systems and come with all necessary mounts. They can be retrofitted to existing tiled walls provided your electrician can route power to the mounting points. The 12V transformer can be installed behind a switch plate or in the roof.
Do 12V rails get as warm as 240V rails?
Yes. Heat output is determined by wattage, not voltage. A 12V rail outputs the same heat as a 240V rail with equivalent wattage.
What temperature does the rail reach?
Without a towel, the rail heats to approximately 35°C. When a towel is draped over it, the towel insulates the rail and absorbs heat, causing the temperature beneath the towel to rise to 50–55°C for effective drying.
Do I need a separate transformer for each rail?
Yes. Each Vertical Rail is supplied with its own 12V transformer. We recommend one rail per transformer to avoid overloading. Wire each rail to its supplied transformer to ensure safe, reliable operation.
Where should the transformer be installed?
Install the transformer in the ceiling or wall cavity no more than 2 metres from the rail. If mounting in the wall cavity, it must be behind a switch plate for access and requires proper ventilation.
What is the recommended spacing between multiple rails?
Generally, spacing of approximately 200mm apart is recommended for a balanced look. However, this is a guide only—you may space them closer or further apart based on your preference. Account for any optional hooks attached to the rails.
Can I wire multiple rails to one timer?
Yes, you can wire multiple rails to a single timer. However, all rails on one timer operate together and cannot have individual schedules. Do not exceed the timer’s load rating (typically 1–16 amps). Each rail must be wired through its own transformer before connecting to the timer.
